VOCAB

  • Axis of Symmetry: a straight line for which every point on a given curve has corresponding to it another point such that the line connecting the two points is bisected by the given line.
  • Exponential Growth: an increase that follows an exponential function.
  • Discriminant: a relatively simple expression that determines some of the properties, as the nature of the roots, of a given equation or function.
  • Exponential Decay: a decrease that follows an exponential function.
  • Geometric Sequence: In mathematics, a geometric progression, also known as a geometric sequence, is a sequence of numbers where each term after the first is found by multiplying the previous one by a fixed non-zero number called the common ratio.

Parabola: a plane curve formed by the intersection of a right circular cone with a plane parallel to a generator of the cone; the set of points in a plane that are equidistant from a fixed line and a fixed point in the same plane or in a parallel plane.

Quadratic Formula: the formula for determining the roots of a quadratic equation from its coefficients.

Roots: Also called nth root. a quantity that, when multiplied by itself a certain number of times, produces a given quantity: The number 2 is the square root of 4, the cube root of 8, and the fourth root of 16.

Vertex: the highest point of something

Zeros: the identity element of a group in which the operation is addition

Make A Million Dollars

This is my spreadsheet.

Real World Parabolas

There are many parabolas in the world, such as the Gateway Arch and the golden arches in a Mcdonald's sign. But the one i am going to inform you about is the Colosseum in Rome, Italy.

I know that the whole structure is not a parabola but if you look closely at the windows or the building then you see the parabola(s). The Roman Emperor of 69 AD, Vespasian, was behind the idea of building the Colosseum. It used to be called the Flavian Amphitheater. It is made up of concrete.
